About Quiz Show

Quiz Show transforms vocabulary review into a game-show experience inspired by the classic Jeopardy format. Students face a board of categories and point values, choosing which questions to attempt based on their confidence level. Higher point values mean harder questions, and hidden daily doubles can double the stakes.

The game-show format is one of the most effective engagement structures in education because it gives students agency. Rather than being handed questions in a fixed order, students choose their own path through the material. This sense of control increases motivation and encourages strategic thinking about what they know and what they need to review.

Each game board is generated from the jam vocabulary, organized into thematic categories. A science jam about ecosystems might have categories like "Food Chains," "Habitats," "Adaptations," "Producers & Consumers," and "Vocabulary Definitions." This categorical organization reinforces the conceptual structure of the subject matter.

Quiz Show supports both individual and team play. In individual mode, students work through the board at their own pace, selecting questions and earning points. In team mode -- ideal for classroom projection -- the teacher acts as host while student teams take turns selecting and answering. The team format naturally encourages discussion and collaborative reasoning.

Questions range from basic recall at the lowest point tier to analysis and application at the highest tier, following Bloom's taxonomy. A 100-point question might ask for a simple definition, while a 500-point question might present a scenario and ask students to apply the vocabulary concept to solve a problem.

Daily doubles appear randomly on the board. When a student selects a daily double, they can wager some or all of their accumulated points before seeing the question. This risk-reward mechanic adds excitement and encourages students to take intellectual risks -- a valuable academic disposition.

Quiz Show sessions typically run 10 to 15 minutes, making them ideal for mid-lesson review or end-of-unit practice.
